Prior to his coaching career, Mattingly has had an extensive playing career both collegiately and professionally.

After graduating from Notre Dame High School, the Burlington-native attended Chicago State University (NCAA D1).

During his four-year career at CSU, Mattingly played in 208 games, posted an impressive .307 batting average, .411 on-base percentage, and ranks first in CSU History in Hits (237), Doubles (43), Runs Batted In (125), Total Bases (329), and second in Runs Scored (129), and walks (108). Mattingly was named an All-Conference Infielder three times (2013, ‘14, ‘15) at two different positions (2B, 3B).

Mattingly was selected in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 39th round, and played across three MiLB (minor league) levels from 2015-2017, including winning a 2017 Northwest League Championship with the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays Class-A Short Season affiliate).

Coach Romanin will join the Royals after most recently coaching with the Burlington Bulls 16U EBLO program and operating as General Manager of the Power Alley indoor baseball facility in Burlington, ON. Mattingly is a Driveline Certified Hitting Instructor, and will be a huge addition to both our baseball staff as well as our College Placement team.
  • Fabio Del Rio
    Coach Photo
    From: Ottawa, ON
Coach Del Rio joined the Royals program in early 2019 and was appointed Program Pitching Coordinator in September of the same year. He was an integral part of the Royals 2019 16U PBLO Championship coaching staff.

Fabio splits his time in the fall between Royals activities and Brock University, where he's Pitching Coach for the Brock Badgers men’s baseball team. During his time with Brock, Fabio was an integral part in helping develop Badgers Pitcher Alex Nolan and helping him get signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019.

A continuous learner and ongoing student of the game, Coach Del Rio has taken the Toronto Blue Jays Coaching Development Program, attended Toronto Blue Jays Scouting School, and is a student of throwing/pitching in line with Alan Jaeger and the content at Driveline Baseball.

In his role as program Pitching Coordinator, Coach Del Rio will oversee all pitching protocols for the Royals program, and assist all Royals pitchers throughout our yearly programming.

As a player, Fabio grew up in the Ottawa area, and played locally. He went on to play at Brock University, winning an OUA Championship as an integral part of some very strong late 90’s Brock Badgers teams.

He was inducted into the Brock Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.
