Mattingly Romanin
Head Coach

Prior to his coaching career, Mattingly has had an extensive playing career both collegiately and professionally.
After graduating from Notre Dame High School, the Burlington-native attended Chicago State University (NCAA D1).
During his four-year career at CSU, Mattingly played in 208 games, posted an impressive .307 batting average, .411 on-base percentage, and ranks first in CSU History in Hits (237), Doubles (43), Runs Batted In (125), Total Bases (329), and second in Runs Scored (129), and walks (108). Mattingly was named an All-Conference Infielder three times (2013, ‘14, ‘15) at two different positions (2B, 3B).
Mattingly was selected in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 39th round, and played across three MiLB (minor league) levels from 2015-2017, including winning a 2017 Northwest League Championship with the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays Class-A Short Season affiliate).
Coach Romanin will join the Royals after most recently coaching with the Burlington Bulls 16U EBLO program and operating as General Manager of the Power Alley indoor baseball facility in Burlington, ON. Mattingly is a Driveline Certified Hitting Instructor, and will be a huge addition to both our baseball staff as well as our College Placement team.

Coach Del Rio joined the Royals program in early 2019 and was appointed Program Pitching Coordinator in September of the same year. He was an integral part of the Royals 2019 16U PBLO Championship coaching staff.
Fabio splits his time in the fall between Royals activities and Brock University, where he's Pitching Coach for the Brock Badgers men’s baseball team. During his time with Brock, Fabio was an integral part in helping develop Badgers Pitcher Alex Nolan and helping him get signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019.
A continuous learner and ongoing student of the game, Coach Del Rio has taken the Toronto Blue Jays Coaching Development Program, attended Toronto Blue Jays Scouting School, and is a student of throwing/pitching in line with Alan Jaeger and the content at Driveline Baseball.
In his role as program Pitching Coordinator, Coach Del Rio will oversee all pitching protocols for the Royals program, and assist all Royals pitchers throughout our yearly programming.
As a player, Fabio grew up in the Ottawa area, and played locally. He went on to play at Brock University, winning an OUA Championship as an integral part of some very strong late 90’s Brock Badgers teams.
He was inducted into the Brock Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

Matt Mills

As Head Coach of the Royals 16U team, Matt brings a wealth of international and Canadian baseball experience, both as a player and as a coach.
Coach Mills' coaching pathway began overseas, working for Baseball New Zealand as a National Team Pitching Coach (15U), National Team Head Coach (18U) and National Development Officer over a nearly four-year period (2009-2012). During this time Matt won a National Championship as a player (West City 2010), two 18U National Championships as a Head Coach (Bayside Westhaven 2011,12) and helped grow the game locally and nationally.
After returning to Canada in 2012, and prior to joining the Royals Coaching Staff in 2014, Matt was Pitching Coach and head of recruiting for McMaster University baseball, as well as Head Coach of the Etobicoke Rangers Junior program (2012-14).
Coach Mills operates as the Infield Coordinator for the Ontario Royals along with his Executive and Head Coach roles with the program.

Landon McLaren

A graduate of Douglas College (North West Athletic Conference), Landon gained valuable experience as an assistant coach with the College following his playing career as a Catcher with the team. Landon was also the head coach of the Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs U21 team who he took to the National championships last year, as well as an assistant coach with the Burnaby Senior Men's baseball team which won the B.C. Provincials in 2016. Landon also won a Senior Men's National Championship with Team BC in 2017. Coach Landon brings valuable instruction experience to the Ontario Royals staff working with catchers between the ages of 14 to 17 at the B.C. Prospects evaluation/instruction camps.

Ryan Balan

Coach Balan has a wealth of experience to draw upon for our 15U Royals, with over a decade coaching locally and internationally under his belt – most recently with West Toronto 14U Elite, as well as running Balan Baseball Academy in the GTA.
The Whitby, Ontario native grew up playing locally, before heading to California University of Pennsylvania (NCAA D2) on a baseball scholarship, obtaining a degree in sociology. Ryan’s College career included the following honours: ·

Following his successful College career, Ryan was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a Pitcher and played at two levels of their minor league system in 2002 and 2003 (GCL Red Sox, Lowell Spinners).
Ryan continued to play professionally from 2004-2006 at the international level in the German Bundesliga, Australian Greater Brisbane Baseball League, and Dutch 1st League, earning multiple MVP honours and a Pitcher of the Year award. During his international career, Ryan promoted the game of baseball through various coaching and mentoring opportunities.
He has coached house league, rep, regional, and international teams, with player ages ranging from children and youth, to teens and adults.
Ryan's coaching method allows players to experience the game of baseball in a relaxed yet intensive way, encouraging them develop their skills progressively with self-confidence.

Nick Jaeggin

Show Bio
Nick is a former Ontario Royals player (2016-18). During his time with the Royals, at the 15U, 16U, and 18U levels, Nick split his time between Shortstop and Pitcher, and was a strong Right-handed hitter.
After graduating from the Royals Program and Oakville Trafalgar High School, Nick furthered his academic and baseball pathways at the University of British Columbia where he suited up for the UBC Thunderbirds Baseball Team (NAIA).
Coach Jaeggin works primarily with our organization's infielders, as well as our 15U team hitters.
